Ing. Oberleithner Gustav [ Notable personality ]
(born April 8, 1870 in Šumperk, died May 19, 1945 in Rapotín, he was buried in the Šumperk graveyard in the grave of his wife’s parents). Graduated in chemistry and inherited a soap-making factory, which he later transformed into a mineral oil refinery. However, he soon left the business and became fully absorbed in municipal politics. Since 1900 he was member of the local board of representatives, soon he became assistant mayor (in 1906) and later the first post-war mayor (in 1918-1921). In 1918 he was member of the Sudetenland Regional Government in Opava. As a leading representative of the German nationalist party he was senator in 1920-1928. In the 1930’s he gave up public activities. He lived in 29 Mühlfeldstrasse (present-day 8. května street). He was designated honorary citizen of the city of Šumperk on March 9, 1917.
